The Hebrew University launched new curricula for research on artificial intelligence in 2025. Among other
initiatives, a national center for advanced AI processors was established. The project is led by Prof. Omri Abend of the Department of Computer Science and Cognitive Science at HUJI.
We are happy to inform you that Prof. Claudia Goldman-Shenhar has agreed to hold the webinar about
«Thinking Machines: Navigating the future of human values»
Claudia V. Goldman is an associate professor of artificial intelligence at the Business School of the Hebrew
University. She earned her Ph.D. in computer science and artificial intelligence in 1999 from the Hebrew
University (awarded the Eshkol Fellowship in 1993 and 1999). From 2002 to 2004, she specialized in the
decentralized control of multi-agent systems as a Senior Post- doctoral Fellow at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2002–2004), where she secured grants from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR).
Before Prof. Goldman returned to academia, she worked for 18 years in industrial AI research, including as
a member of the CTO’s staff and team leader at the «Samsung Technical Center for Research» in Israel, as well as a research scientist at the «General Motors Technical Center» in Israel.
In 2024, she joined the faculty at the Hebrew University, where she founded the «Explainable AI for Good Lab.» Her research focuses on trustworthy human-AI interactions as well as on the development of effective and efficient AI systems, particularly through explainable AI algorithms for decision-making under uncertainty in critical areas with significant societal and environmental impacts. Prof. Goldman has published extensively in the academic literature on artificial intelligence.
Yishai Fraenkel will hold a short Introduction to the Topic. Fraenkel is Vice President for Advancement and
External Relations of the Hebrew University. He was appointed by the university president to lead the Hebrew University’s new AI initiative. Until the end of his term as director general in October 2025, he also served as the fifteenth vice president of the Hebrew University.
